Mike Bibby has been having a down year for the Atlanta Hawks

Blogged under General, NBA Blogs, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Big Hawks News by Andrew on Tuesday 2 February 2010 at 5:59 pm

Atlanta Hawks’ point guard Mike Bibby has been very inconsistent for the Atlanta Hawks this season and is averaging career-lows in points, assists, rebounds, and steals.  He has career averages of 16.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 36 minutes, and a 44% FG percentage.  This year Bibby is averaging only 8.9 points, 4.2 assists, 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and is shooting just 41% from the field.  His numbers were even worse in the past month and his play has been very inconsistent.  Due to his poor play, Bibby is averaging just 27 minutes per game and has not played more than 30 minutes in a game in over a month.   In the past four games, Bibby scored 11 points against the Hawks, 0 points against the Spurs, 2 points against the Celtics, and 10 points against the Magic.  That just shows just how inconsistent Bibby has been, especially scoring the ball.  Either Bibby needs to really step up his play, or perhaps the Hawks should start giving their talented rookie Jeff Teague some more minutes.  Even though Teague’s numbers are far from impressive, he is averaging only 10 minutes per game so he has not been given much of a chance to show his stuff.  Luckily for the Hawks they have the best 6th Man in the game in Jamal Crawford, who makes up for Bibby’s poor play and is averaging 17.7 points and 2.8 assists.

Joe Smith is just biding his time until the Atlanta Hawks need him

Back-up power forward Joe Smith is Josh Smith’s back-up and Zaza Pachulia also plays at power forward ahead of him limiting his playing time. But, Smith has played pretty well when he has gotten the chance to play. He has played in 33 games (0 starts) for the Hawks this season and he is averaging 9.0 minutes, 2.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. If the Hawks suffer an injury in the frontcourt I’s certain that Joe Smith would step up and produce.

Rookie guard Jeff Teague is having a rough time for the Atlanta Hawks this season

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 7 January 2010 at 8:54 am

PG/SG Jeff Teague is having a rough time for the Hawks this season. He has played in 30 games (0 starts) for the Hawks this season and he is averaging 10.6 minutes, 3.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Teague is not shooting too well this season hitting only 35.5% from the floor and 22.2% from three point range. This is not a excuse but Teague is not getting much playing this season due to the fact that he is behind Mike Bibby, Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford in the rotation at guard and it’s hard to get into a rhythm shooting the ball when your playing time is sporadic. Still, the Hawks need him to play better when called upon.

Is Mike Bibby of the Atlanta Hawks starting to slow down?

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 26 December 2009 at 2:40 pm

Personally, I think that Mike Bibby has played pretty well for the Hawks this season. He has played in 28 games (all starts) this season for the Hawks and he is averaging 28.0 minutes, 9.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Bibby is also shooting 43% from three point range this season which is outstanding. The reason that Bibby’s numbers are down some this season is because Jamal Crawford is eating into this playing time this year.

Marvin Williams is was he is for the Atlanta Hawks

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 26 November 2009 at 10:50 am

I thought the Hawks should have let Marvin Williams walk instead of giving him that huge contract in the off-season. He is a average ball player at best as the fifth or sixth option on offense for the Hawks. Williams has played in 14 games (all starts) for the Hawks this season and he has averaged 29.6 minutes, 11.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. On a different team Williams would be a better basketball player but in his defense it’s good that he’s not a selfish player who needs the ball in his hands to succeed.
