Orlando Magic 93, Atlanta Hawks 76

The Hawks got absolutely blitzed last night at home by the Magic. The Hawks were outscored 54-25 in the second half of this game as they didn’t look like they belonged on the same court as the Magic. The Hawks only shot 38.8% from the floor in this game and they were outrebounded 53-41 by the Magic. Joe Johnson led the way for the Hawks with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in this game. Josh Smith only shot 6 of 17 from the floor but he still finished up with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists. The Hawks are now 11-4 on the year.

Marvin Williams is was he is for the Atlanta Hawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by alleyoop on Thursday 26 November 2009 at 10:50 am

I thought the Hawks should have let Marvin Williams walk instead of giving him that huge contract in the off-season. He is a average ball player at best as the fifth or sixth option on offense for the Hawks. Williams has played in 14 games (all starts) for the Hawks this season and he has averaged 29.6 minutes, 11.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. On a different team Williams would be a better basketball player but in his defense it’s good that he’s not a selfish player who needs the ball in his hands to succeed.

Atlanta Hawks 105, Miami Heat 90

Blogged under Big Hawks News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General by Andrew on Wednesday 18 November 2009 at 10:22 pm

The Atlanta Hawks (10-2) became the first team in the Eastern Conference to get 10 wins this season as they took down the Miami Heat (7-4) Wednesday night at home.  The Hawks were led by who else but Joe Johnson.  Johnson shot the ball great from the outside, hitting 5-11 threes and finishing with 30 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.  Johnson got a lot of help from Josh Smith, who filled up the stat sheet in this one.  Smith scored 16 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished out 7 assists.  Smith was also a beast on defense, blocking 2 shots and getting 2 steals.  The Hawks did a great job containing the very talented Dwayne Wade.  Wade only hit 33% of his shots and was held to 15 points.  The Hawks are the surprise of the East so far this season and are undefeated at home.  Nobody expected them to be on top of the Eastern Conference with the Celtics, Magic, and Cavaliers expected to be better.  If they can rebound and play good defense against high quality opponents like Wade, they will stay near the top all season.

Joe Johnson is quietly putting up big numbers for the Atlanta Hawks

Blogged under Big Hawks News,Bloglockers,Steppin Up by Andrew on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 11:34 pm

Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson rarely gets the credit or attention that an All-Star is used to, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting up great numbers for the Hawks year in and year out.  This year has been no different for Johnson and he is one of the main reasons the Hawks currently have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 9-2.  Johnson is leading the team in scoring and is also leading them in minutes and assists.  He is averaging 23.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, while shooting 46% from the field and 86% from the free throw line.  The only thing Johnson is not doing well is shooting the three.  He is only shooting 31% from behind the arc so far this year.  I expect him to improve on that as the season progresses since Johnson was a career 38% three point shooter coming into this year.
