The Atlanta Hawks rookies have disappointed overall

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Tuesday 27 March 2007 at 5:11 pm

Many said that Shelden Williams was just a banger that could rebound and play a little defense and that’s exactly the way he has performed for them.  He has now played in 70 games and he has averaged only 4.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 17.3 minutes per game this season.  Look for the Hawks to consider trading him to try to acquire a real point guard in the off season.

Reserve center Solomon Jones is finally starting to get some playing time and I’m wondering what took them so long.  Zaza Pachulia is a decent starter at center, but Lorenzen Wright is a waste so why not let Jones play those minutes.  Jones has played in 48 games this season and he’s only averaged 9.4 minutes, 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.  What can it hurt to let Jones play and see what they have in him over the last couple of weeks?

The Atlanta Hawks season is spinning out of control

The Hawks have fallen on hard times lately as they’ve lost 4 games in a row and have fallen to 27-45 on the season.  It would take a miracle for the Hawks to get on a hot streak and make a run for the #8 spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs without Joe Johnson.  They are currently 6 games behind the New Jersey Nets with only 10 games to play.  The Hawks will use the last three weeks of the NBA season to evalutate their young players and the players they have at their two weak spots which are currently the center and point guard positions.

The Atlanta Hawks might be without Speedy Claxton for the rest of the season

Blogged under Big Hawks News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injuries by alleyoop on Saturday 24 March 2007 at 6:46 pm

Speedy Claxton’s knee is bothering him again and this time it could end his season. The Hawks gave Claxton a lot of money in free agency and he’s been a complete bust!  He played in 42 games and he averaged 25.1 minutes, 5.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game.  He also shot an embarrassing 32.7% from the floor.  The Hawks will likely be looking to upgrade at point guard in either the draft or free agency this off season.

Shelden Williams hitting the rookie wall

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Sunday 11 March 2007 at 7:16 pm

It looks as if Shelden Williams is running out of gas for the Hawks.  In his last 9 games, he has averaged only 8.6 minutes, 2.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  The Hawks need more from Shelden Williams if the Hawks are going to be a better team.
