The Young Hawks having a rough time this season

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 29 January 2007 at 7:55 pm

The future is bright for the Atlanta Hawks but the right now is dim.  The Hawks have won 5 of their last 10 games, but they sit at 15-27 on the season.  Joe Johnson is the star of the show for the Hawks as he’s averaging 24.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.  The young guys that the Hawks have drafted the last couple of seasons are going to mature at some point and the Hawks are going to be a really good team for a long time.  Josh Smith has really improved his game as he’s averaging 13.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.7 blocks per game this season.  Josh Childress has missed alot of time this season due to injury but he’s averaging 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.  He should have a good second half for the Hawks.  Marvin Williams is a skywalker that really knows how to finish around the basket, but he’ll need to fine tune some of the other parts of his game if he wants to become a big-time player.  Marvin is averaging 11.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season and the Hawks are hoping he will improve on those numbers in the second half of the season.  First round pick Shelden Williams has been a backup this season and he’s done a good job providing muscle off the bench with 5.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.  He could also be a future star.  Veterans Zaza Pachulia (11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds) and Tyronn Lue (13.1 points) have played well for the Hawks this season.  Guards Speedy Claxton and Salim Stoudamire have been serious disappointments for the Hawks.  Claxton got a lot of free-agent money to start at point guard for the Hawks but he’s been pathetic when healthy….which hasn’t been often.
