Hawks getting production from their rookies

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 12 December 2006 at 11:43 pm

First round pick Shelden Williams has played pretty well for the Hawks so far this season.  Williams has played in 19 games and has averaged 21.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  Williams is a good defender and rebounder that looks like he has a bright future in the NBA.

Solomon Jones has been pretty good when he’s got on the court.  Jones has played in 15 games and has averaged 9.6 minutes, 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds.  Jones is also shooting an impressive 51.7% from the floor.

Cedric Bozeman hasn’t adjusted too well to the NBA yet.  He has played in 18 games and has averaged 8.9 minutes, 0.9 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game so far this season.  He has only hit 26.9% of his shots from the floor.

This looks like another productive draft for the improving Hawks.

Josh Childress out for awhile

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 11 December 2006 at 11:42 pm

Josh Childress has a hairline fracture in his left foot which will keep him out until January.  This is a blow to the young Hawks who have been playing very well so far this season.

The Hawks fell to 8-11 with this loss.

Sonics thump the Hawks 102-87

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 7 December 2006 at 5:09 pm

The Hawks had big problems in Seattle on Tuesday.  The Hawks only shot 38.6% from the floor, while the Sonics shot 55.3%.  The Sonics also out-rebounded the Hawks 44-28 and that was a recipe for doom.

Joe Johnson led the way with 34 points for the Hawks.  Josh Smith kept busy with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocked shots.  Zaza Pachulia added 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Tyronn Lue providing instant offense off the bench

Blogged under Front Page,Steppin Up by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 5 December 2006 at 4:12 pm

The Hawks brought in Speedy Claxton to start at point guard this season, but Tyronn Lue is out-playing him and getting the bulk of the minutes.  Lue is averaging 16.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game so far this season.  Lue has shot well from everywhere on the floor (48.5% FGs, 42.0 3-PTs, and 82.8% FTs).  If Lue keeps this up, the Hawks could be a real surprise in the weak Eastern Conference of the NBA.

The Hawks are now 7-8 on the season.
